Paisley has a long and glorious history, from the Dark Ages pilgrim and patron Saint, Mirin, to it’s 12 century Abbey, it’s ground-breaking thread manufacturing and Paisley pattern, to it’s place in legal history through the Snail in the Bottle case of Donaghue vs Stevenson. Check out the History section of the website.
It has also had it’s fair share of tragedy - the Canal Disaster of 1810, the Glen Cinema of 1929 and the First Aid Post Bombing of 1941.
And the Town is still creating history, new history. In the past few years there has been a number of firsts for the Town, such as the Royal National Mod, hosted for the first time in Paisley in 2013, the starting point for the 2014 Monte Carlo Classic Rally and the recent Airbus A380 landing - a first for Scotland as well as Paisley.
